Day 21: Zion National Park

 Sunday, June 2

A very quiet night on Poverty Road with not a soul around. Today we drive from the beautiful east side of Zion NP on Rt 9 through the two tunnels to do two short hikes without having to go into the very busy canyon valley with the shuttle bus. The first hike was called the Zion Canyon Overlook Trail (1.1 mi RT) with 400 fr elevation gain to nice views out over the valley. The second hike was 1.5 mi RT in the shade along Pine Creek with several water crossings and a rock scramble at the end to see a small waterfall. I had to wade through the creek here and climb over a boulder here to reach the waterfall.

After cooking some beef stroganoff at the visitor center picnic area, we drove to Hurricane UT and got groceries, gas, and did our laundry. Then we went to a local KOA and splurged on the pool and shower there.
