Vanlog, pull off just north of Jenner, CA
Well, you can’t control the weather. Most of the morning was scheduled for different views of the Golden Gate Bridge, but the fog lingered and lingered.
Seeing as the fog prevented some good photos we decided to have a leisurely lunch in Sausalito to kill some time and we had these delicious crab cakes, clam chowder, fish sandwich, and salted caramel vanilla crunch cake at the Salito restaurant with a table overlooking the harbor.
After lunch, which was five stars all around, we drove a very windy road to Muir Woods national monument. We arrived at our designated time (2:00–3:45 PM) with $30 reserved parking for that time slot and hiked for 90 min in the woods. Muir Woods is like a temple of coastal redwoods. All around the tallest trees on earth rise up from the lush bottom lands to tower over everything else. Truly a magical experience.
We spent the rest of the day driving north on the Pacific coast highway ask Pt Reyes National Seashore and it’s lighthouse north through Bodega Bay and then camped at this pullout overlooking the ocean where there is a nursery of baby elephant seals. What a place to sleep and enjoy the breakfast views in the morning—all for free with no reservation! Vanlife truly is better than however you vacation.
