Vanlog, some hotel parking lot in the San Francisco airport area
Not the best vacation day today. First, Rachel flew home two days early for personal reasons but this messed up the rest of our travel plans. Instead of spending another day in Yosemite, we found ourselves at a hotel (adequate but certainly not worth $219) last night instead of parked up in a national forest with gorgeous views. Then we decided to use the single laundromat at the hotel and it did not spin the wash cycle. So we had soaking wet jeans, sweatshirts, and towel and had to use a local laundromat for the rest of our clothes to dry. I did this while Jessica did food shopping nearby. We had to tank up and drive two and a half hours back to SF. It was 1:30 along the way and Jessica got hungry so we stopped at the Vasona County Park for lunch (a $6 entry fee). Cute little park with a narrow gauge railroad, playground, picnic areas, eucalyptus grove, small lake with shore birds. Cool vibe of people painting, families celebrating, lovers picnicking, and old people feeding the birds.
When we finally made it to the city, we then hit downtown traffic. We were literally circling blocks looking for a parking space for close to an hour since Vanna will not fit in a parking garage. We did finally manage to see Baker Beach and Fisherman’s Wharf after snagging a free spot on the street, treating ourselves to a crepe, In N Out burger, and some Ghiardelli Chocolates. Then it was a 20 mi drive all the way across town to the hotel Jessica had booked way back on June 10 in anticipation of Rachel’s Sunday morning flight. Hotel has no record of the Expedia confirmation. On the phone with Expedia for over an hour and then disconnected. Now dark and still no one can find the reservation. Had to book a new one. This sucks! Messing up my vanlife mojo where you camp for free and in a quiet peaceful place without need for a reservation or backtracking. Hopefully tomorrow starts true vanlife again.
The Top Ten Reasons:
1. No advance planning required
2. It’s free
3. Beautiful views
4. No other people making noise nearby
5. Don’t have to worry about booking errors
6. Campfires
7. Sunsets
8. Rooms don’t smell like cigarette smoke
9. Waking up to the sounds of nature
10. The bed is actually more cozy
Update: got the Expedia refund
11. Never leave anything behind by accident like the fresh lettuce we left in the hotel fridge
