Day 21: Pacific Coast Highway

 July 16, 2021

Vanlife, 36th Street Oakland, CA

It is only fitting that on Day 21, my approximate halfway point of the trip I have finally seen and touched the Pacific Ocean. That’s right! Vanna has made it all the way across the country! Today, I drove down the Pacific coast highway south of San Francisco after crossing the Bay Bridge. I started at Rockaway Beach in Pacifica and ended only as far south as Ano Nuevo State Park, stopping almost everywhere in between, including Half Moon Bay, a hip vibe full of surfers. At Pigeon Point, they had a cool light station. At Ano Nuevo, you could walk to preserve land where there were elephant seals. At Half Moon Bay, they had a really good bakery and Venice Beach. At Pacifica, you could climb the dunes for excellent views of the rocky coastline. And the best part about it was that the temperature never even got out of the 60s. There were times when I even had to wear a sweatshirt!

I ended my day where I began it—back at Gina’s house in Oakland, where I stayed in the van in her driveway. Tomorrow, I am excited to be reunited with my girls as they are flying out for a week-long adventure in Yosemite!
