Day 23: Yosemite National Park

 Tues, June 4

What do vanlifers do when they arrive on the east side of Yosemite NP and find out that the Tioga Road is closed because of snow? So instead of being able to drive 29 miles into the Yosemite Valley they have to drive 215 miles around and over the Sonora Pass at 9640 ft. It took about 5 hrs but we made it!

No matter how many times you’ve been here, it’s always exciting to see that first glimpse of Half Dome as you drive into the valley, especially knowing that you actually climbed up the back of that thing only three years ago! Then you round the bend and there’s Bridal Veil Falls staring you in the face, El Capitan towering over the Merced, and Yosemite Falls reflecting in the water.

After driving through the valley we went to the incomparable views from Glacier Point and Tunnel view before boondocking on the side of the road just outside the park entrance at El Portal.
