Vanlog, Emerald Bay campground, South Lake Tahoe
I showered outside the van door, had breakfast, and drove 2.5 hrs to Lake Tahoe. I had to park a mile from the popular East Side Trailhead and then walked a mile on the trail to Hidden Beach, where I cooled off in the deep blue clear waters of the third deepest lake in the US.
Then I retraced my route and drove across the state lines into California and down the western shore of the lake to D L Bliss State Park, where I hiked the Rubicon Trail along the shoreline. The rockiness reminded me of the Maine coast. They had a small lighthouse there built in 1916 for $900, one of the original four on the lake. Then I swam at Lester Beach.
Finally I ended at Emerald Bay on South Lake Tahoe and stayed at the campground there.
