Vanlog, Blackwater Falls State Park
August 9, 2020
On Saturday the 8th, we had quite the day! First we drove to Babcock State Park to see the picturesque grist mill over the Glade Creek. We were practically the only ones there and got some amazing photos in the early morning light. Then we drove to the New River Gorge Bridge overlook and to Lover’s Leap in Hawk’s Nest State Park.
Then we had a picnic and went swimming at Summersville Lake, where there were sheer rock drop offs that the more daring could dive from.
Finally, we stopped at the Cranberry Glades area where there is a loop trail on a boardwalk through some interesting alpine like habitat.
Then we had a long and bumpy drive with the last 11 miles on a gravel forest road to our Boondocking site in the Monongahela National Forest right along the Little River. So remote and private and beautiful! We cooked dinner, had a nice campfire, and s’mores before concluding this magical day.
